The impact of Music

Music is a thoroughly mixed cocktail of sounds, words and melody that is usually strongly influenced by and influences our emotions. It is complex concept that wields an undeniable power over our souls. It sets both the tone and the pace on how we feel about issues. Music is a perfect exmple of how the incorporeal influences the tangible world.  Music, depending on its nature, make us laugh, cry, dance without inhibition, stir memories, kindle passion, evoke strong emotions and even predisposes us to the influence of the ‘4th dimension’.

Youths are at a very emotional stage of development. Hence, they are susceptible to  anything  that tampers with their emotions, namely- music

I remember how one of my friends couldn’t listen to some set of songs after break up, because they brought back past memories that hurt. That’s how powerful music can influence emotions . There are certain songs that might wan to make you cry because they stir your emotions.

It wont be out of turn to say what we feel determines what we do to a large extent. Hence, since music influences what we do, we can safely conclude by logical deduction  that music influences what we do.

It is no coincidence that our generation that is so materialistic and morally impoverished is daily inundated by songs whose lyrics scream sex, money, bling and partying- all noise, little substance; garbage in, garbage out. This affects the thinking faculty of most youth, we end up not being positively productive because the lyrics are embbed with vulgar words.

Most times, we don’t get to realise how bad these lyrics are because we enjoy the lyrics that comes along with them, but you need to listen to those songs from the lips of a 5year old child and let’s see the turn it takes with your feelings.

Music is both expressive and impressive. Expressive in the sense that it shows what we feel. Impressive in the sense that it consciously or unconsciously tells us what to feel.

The National Anthem fosters a feeling of patriotism.  Passionate and romantic music can serve as a foreplay to physical intimacy, war songs/chats are capable of makin a man’s blood boil over in readiness to spill another man’s. Worship sessions in church tunes us into fellowshiping with God. These are but few instances of the significant impact of music.
