The song ‘who you are’ by Jessica , is a song of all time, it reminds me of every youngster battling with their career choice, 75% of students in higher institutions are studying courses they have no passion for, some are due to the socio – economic situation they are surrounded by while others are where they are because their parents want them there.
In the present world, parents get too protective of their children and end up putting their children in the wrong spot, all because they want to be called the parent to a highly popular professional. I’m not against their wish but things like that help produce less number of achievers. That’s one of the reasons we have graduates without jobs, most graduate don’t even pray to practise what they studied and that’s why you walk into banks today and find graduate of Engineering courses and graduate of Educational courses at the teller stand.
There’s no denying, government have their own special contributions but parents have their ways of pushing their wards into what they don’t want.
I used to have a friend in the high school who wanted to be a scriptwriter, but his parents think he should become a pilot. He wandered between Arts and Science department for a whole term, teachers got tired of him and so was he. I was forced to ask what his problem was, and then he explained to me that he wants to speak to people through is scripts, he wants to create an awareness for posterity but his were not seeing things his way. I felt sorry for him but there was nothing I could do to help him, my words were just ” follow your heart”. He had his reason for choosing script writing, but his parents were not concerned about it.
Years later he got me on a social network and guess what? Our wannabe scriptwriter / pilot is now a member of the U. S army. His turn around caught me by surprise, all he came up with was “They didn’t want me to win and I wasn’t ready to lose, so I changed everything” I was extremely amazed.
I don’t know the number of people going through hard times over their career but I think it’s high time you stood for what you love . There no denying; parents pay the bills but you get the end result. It’s your choice to choose the kind of result you want. Just true to yourself.
